Creation Retelling

God had a plan — a plan called redemption. When the angels in heaven learned about it, they were puzzled. They didn’t understand what the plan meant, though they tried to figure it out. God chose a very unlikely place to begin His plan — a chaotic world, covered in darkness and deep water. But His Spirit hovered over it, watching and waiting. Then God spoke. And when He speaks, His Word is alive — what He says comes to life.

With His first command, God said, “Let there be light.” Suddenly, light appeared. God saw that it was good. He separated the light from the darkness, calling the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” That was the first day.

Next, God said, “Let’s divide the waters.” And just like that, He created a great space — the sky — between the waters above and the waters below. Then God gathered the waters under the sky to one place, and dry land appeared. From that land, God caused green plants and trees to grow — every kind, each with seeds. The roots sank deep into the soil, and the leaves reached toward the light — toward the One who holds all things together by His powerful Word.

Activity: God’s Power to Create

Let’s imagine how powerful God is!

Directions:

1. Draw a horizontal line near the bottom of your paper.

2. From each end of the line, draw a diagonal line that meets at the top.

(Stop and look!)

What did you draw? A triangle? A mountain?

Now think about this: You needed instructions and still might have drawn something other than what I had in mind (a triangle). But God just spoke — and the world became exactly as He imagined. Every time. That’s power!

Reflect & Respond

In your own words:

Why do you think God started His plan of redemption with creation?
