Genesis 2

Ever wonder why God made us? Find out the reason behind our creation.

Made in God’s Image

Genesis 2:4–25

Vocabulary
  • Power – The strength or ability to do something.

What Happened in Genesis 2:4–25?

God made everything in the world. But when He made people, He did something extra special. He didn’t just speak like He did for animals—He formed the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathed His own breath into him.

God gave Adam a beautiful home called Eden, filled with trees, rivers, animals, and beauty. Adam’s job was to take care of the garden and all the creatures in it. God also gave Adam a smart mind to make rules, build things, and protect life.

Why Did God Create Us?

God didn’t need us—He is powerful and complete on His own (Psalm 50:12).
But God still wanted to make us!

Revelation 4:11 and Colossians 1:16 say:

  • God created us for His pleasure—not to entertain Him, but because creating us was good and beautiful.

God is like an artist:

  • A painting shows the heart of the painter.

  • A poem shows the thoughts of the poet.

  • A song shows the heart of the musician.

We are God’s expression. We reflect who He is (Romans 1).
He also wants a relationship with us—just like He has with the angels. Even when we go our own way and blame God when things go wrong, He never leaves us. Being close to God is better than money or popularity—it brings real peace.

The Wow Factor: God’s Love for Us

Why is it so amazing that God breathed life into Adam?

  • God made animals just by speaking.

  • He could have made people that way, too.

  • But instead, He used His hands and His breath.

  • He made a special home (Eden) just for Adam.

Clay Activity: Create Like the Creator!

  • An animal (like the ones in Eden)

While you shape, think about this:
God took His time forming Adam. He was intentional, creative, and loving. He didn’t rush.

When you're done, write the name of your creation below and a sentence about what makes it special:
