Family Tree
Adam and Eve Had Another Son: After Cain and Abel, God blessed Adam and Eve with another son named Seth. Through Seth’s family line, people began to seek and follow God again.
Meet Enoch — The Man Who Didn’t Die?! One of the most amazing people in Seth’s family was Enoch. The Bible says Enoch walked faithfully with God. He was so close to God, that one day… he just disappeared! That’s right — Enoch never died. God just took him away to be with Him! That’s not normal — even in Bible times. Enoch stands out because of his faith and friendship with God.
A Prophetic Baby: Noah. Later in the family line, a man named Lamech had a baby and named him Noah. Lamech said Noah would bring comfort to people who were tired from working hard on cursed ground (see verse 28). That was a prophecy! God planned to use Noah to begin lifting the curse on the earth.
Did you know? Noah’s name means “rest” or “comfort.”
Wait, How Old Were These Guys? Noah became a dad at 500 years old! That might sound like grandpa age to us, but back then, people lived 700–900 years on average. Most people back then had kids between 65 and 187 years old. Today, people usually start families in their 20s or 30s. So in Bible times, 500 was old — but not unheard of.
Big Ideas from Genesis 5:
Seth’s family helped bring people back to worshiping God.
Enoch showed us that it’s possible to walk closely with God.
Noah was chosen by God to bring comfort and change to the world.
