Ariel Childs Books: Inspiring Children's Literature

Genesis 3:15-20

In this lesson, Adam and Eve chose to listen to a voice other than God’s. Students will explore what happened because of that choice and learn how not following God can bring consequences. The lesson also helps children understand how these choices still affect our lives today and why listening to God matters.

God Sees, God Speaks, God Judges

Retelling 1: Hiding from God

Adam and Eve heard the thunderous voice of God walking through the garden. The ground shook with every step.

“Oh no!” said Eve, her heart pounding. “God said we would die if we ate from the Tree of Knowledge. He’s going to kill us if He finds out!”

“God can’t kill us if He can’t find us,” said Adam.

“You’re right,” said Eve. “Let’s hide!”

But God already knew what they did and where they were hiding. Still, He called out, “Adam, where are you?”

Adam stepped forward. “I heard you in the garden,” he said, shaking. “I hid because I didn’t have anything to cover myself.”

God asked, “How did you know you were naked? Did you eat from the tree I commanded you not to eat from?”

Nature of God

Abby, a four-year-old girl, was excited to eat her cupcake. But she had to wait until after the birthday song and prayer. When the teacher passed out cupcakes, she saw chocolate icing all over Abby’s face.

“Abby, did you already eat some of your cupcake?” the teacher asked.

Question: Why did the teacher ask even though she already knew?

Answer: She wanted to give Abby a chance to be honest.

Just like the teacher, God gave Adam the chance to confess. He wants us to be honest—even when we’ve done something wrong.

Retelling 2: Consequences of Sin

Adam stared at the grass, feeling sad and nervous. He had to answer God.

He said, “Eve gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

Then God looked at Eve.

Eve said, “The voice tricked me, and I ate it.”

The voice came from a serpent. It didn’t try to blame anyone. God punished the serpent and turned it into a slithering snake right before their eyes.

Human Nature

Have you ever been in trouble and blamed someone else? Imagine this:

  • Your teacher says not to talk during the lesson. Jenna, your friend, starts talking to you, and you talk back. The teacher sees you and gives you a warning. You say, “But Jenna started it!”

Question: Do you still deserve to get in trouble? Why or why not?

Answer: Even if Jenna started talking, you had a choice to obey your teacher. Everyone is responsible for their own actions.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (NIrV)

  • “We must all stand in front of Christ to be judged. Each one of us will be judged for what we do—good or bad.”

Retelling 3: The Pain of Disobedience

God looked sadly at His creation.

He told Eve: “When you have children, it will be very painful for you.”

He told Adam: “You listened to Eve instead of Me. Now you will have to work hard to grow food.”

Then God said something important:

Genesis 3:22 (NIrV)

  • “Just like one of us, the man can now tell the difference between good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out and pick fruit from the tree of life and eat it. If he does, he will live forever.”

  • So, God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden.

Why Did God Do That?

Question: What would have happened if they had eaten from the Tree of Life?

Answer: They would have lived forever.

Question: Why didn’t God want that?

Answer: Because Adam and Eve had sinful hearts. God didn’t want them to live forever in sin. That’s why He removed them from the garden. From now on, people would die. This is called physical death.

God’s Nature

If no one gets punished for sin, people will just keep doing bad things. God is a fair judge. He punishes sin because He doesn’t want evil to grow.

God doesn’t ignore wrong things. He holds people accountable, and He wants us to be honest, faithful, and to follow Him—not lies.

Proverbs 12:22 (NIrV)

  • “The Lord hates those whose lips tell lies. But He is pleased with people who tell the truth.”

John 8:44 (NIrV)

  • “When the devil lies, he speaks his natural language. He is the father of lies.” We want to live in a world where people can buy homes that match their needs rather than having to find a compromise and settle on the second-best option. That's why we take a lot of time and care in getting to know our clients from the moment they reach out to us and ask for our help.
